My Gear
Here's a list of all the gear I use and recommend! Disclaimer, I am not sponsored nor paid to recommend any of the products listed below! Do check out the blog to see my review of some of these items.
Cameras (Drones too) & Lenses
Canon 5D Mk IV
The workhorse of most of my photos. This 30.4 MP camera with stellar dynamic range, noise performance and dope autofocus is simply amazing. GPS, Wifi, weather sealing, built-in intervalometer, dual-pixel autofocus, 4K video are some of the features that make a big difference. It is not cheap but a good investment considering I am planning to use this for a considerable time.
Canon 5D Mk II
My trusty 5D Mk II has been with me since 2009 and was my first ever full-frame DSLR. Used mainly as a backup camera or if I needed to run two cameras concurrently. It may be old and lacks modern-day features, but don't let that fool you. The image it produces is stellar. Oh, and it can take videos too!
DJI Phantom 4 Pro
Aerial photography really takes things to a whole new level, unlocking new perspectives. While I would ideally want to use an Inspire 2 with the X7 camera, the setup time, cost and portability of it gets in the way. On the other hand, the smallers ized Mavic Pro just can't match up to the 1" sensor despite it's superb portability.
Canon 16-35 f/4L IS USM
I thought 24mm was wide enough until I tried 16mm. This is my go-to lens for landscape photography. It is mind-blowingly sharp with the extra benefit of IS for those moments where using a tripod may not be feasible. It is completely weather sealed and the 77mm filter thread is great as it is common among my other lenses.
Canon 24-105 f/4L IS USM
The one lens to rule them all. 'nuff said. It is, however, showing its age and an upgrade to the Mk II version is due.
Canon 70-200 f/2.8L II IS USM
Arguably the best 70-200 lens not just in the canon line-up but among all the other brands. Great quality optics especially when comparing it to its predecessors. The thing that stood out the most when I used this lens was the IS performance. On paper it has 4 stops of stabilisation, but it honestly feels like a lot more. My only complaint is that it is a tad heavy. Why don't they make lenses out of carbon fibre or aerospace titanium? Or am I asking for too much?
Sigma 50 f/1.4 DG HSM Art
A decade ago, the only two reasons I would consider buying lens from Sigma was if 1) I was on a tight budget or 2) I was getting the 12-24 as Canon did not have a native lens at this focal length. Now, the only reason hindering me from buying a lens from Sigma is well... it doesn't have a red ring. The Art series line-up from Sigma is nothing short of amazing. From the build quality to its optical performance, it is really hard to find fault with it. The only downside is the AF reliability, which somehow only affects this lens.
Sigma 35 f/1.4 DG HSM Art
Another awesome piece of glass from Sigma, which does not suffer from the unreliable AF. My go-to lens for events like parties/birthdays/weddings where I am taking photos casually.
Photographic Accessories
Peak Design Slide & Capture & Everyday Messenger & Everyday Tote
I am thoroughly impressed with Peak Design. Their Slide strap does not sacrifice style for comfort. The extra thick padding, coupled with the 'seat-belt' material really makes this item feel premium and built to last the ages. The most useful item is probably the Capture Pro. The ability to clip your camera to your bag or to yourself cannot be underestimated. It makes the camera accessible, while keeping both hands free when you need it. Last but not least is their bags. Their Everyday series have been really well thought out with many features. They have truly proven to be a jack of all trades. Please do check them out and show them your support!
